Light Horse Plantation

Our early 1900’s plantation home is believed to have had a lively history from the James B. Duke & J. Roney families during the early days of North Carolina’s early development.  With further area ties going back even further, It’s believed that General Harry Lee, aka. Light Horse Harry Lee, father of Civil war General Robert E. Lee. had encampments and surveillance operations on or around this very property.

Light Horse Harry Lee and his commander General Nathaniel Greene traveled either close to or right through the Deep Creek area during the revolution while possibly camping on our very grounds.  With such strong ties, we strive to maintain our area’s heritage and perpetuate the principles which helped to develop our area.
